All new dungeons and a brand new story were mentioned, but the word sequel wasn’t really used which I imagine is intentional. The video shown gave emphasis to using the 3D function of the system for various multi-level transitions, with new abilities shown for Link to navigate dungeons. While everyone was sort of expecting The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask to be ported to the 3DS, Reggie swerved us all with news that a new Zelda game was being developed set in the Link to the Past world for 3DS, and it would release this holiday. Reggie Fils-Aime closed out the show with what I’d consider the most surprising announcement. I don’t believe there was any indication of whether it would be this year or next, but we’ll double check that once some official press info releases here soon. Not a lot of information on this one outside of some video shown off. Nintendo acknowledged the incredible outpouring of support from fans, so it’s nice to see those wishes answered for everyone that either loved the game when it released, or have wanted to play it without shelling out $200 for a physical copy.Ī new Yoshi’s Island title is in development for the 3DS.
Some expected talk here of upcoming releases, like LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, some more Pikmin 3 information (Flying Pikmin!), and some talk about the upcoming Wii U system update.īut the more surprising bits of information are contained below, along with some other expected but nice to see nuggets of news too.įirst up, Earthbound is finally headed to Virtual Console for the Wii U, and will be released this year in North America. Lots of stuff dropped from Nintendo this morning with a new Nintendo Direct, focused mostly on the Nintendo 3DS but also featuring some surprising Wii U related news.
